John documented the activities of the governor, the first lady and the first family. His photographic pursuits for the governor’s office took him across the country and around the globe as he recorded the historic intersection of politics and celebrity that surrounded Schwarzenegger. Governor Gray Davis not very popular in the polls after the state suffered through a summer rolling blackout during the state’s power crisis. Coupled with a huge budget deficit his opponents were able to collect enough signatures to recall the governor and hold a special election. Over 300 candidates, including actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, sought to replace Davis. Schwarzenegger went on to win the election in October 2003 and was re-elected in 2006. View the recall election photos in full screen mode → Photo essay: Water wars - The Klamath water crisis The Klamath River in Klamath, Ore. supplies water to many diverse interests in the Klamath Basin. An endangered species, the sucker fish, has created a conflict over water flows from the Klamath reservoir into the Klamath river. A lack of water in the region has environmentalists, farmers and Native Americans fighting with the U.S. Department of the Interior over what little water is left. At the coffee house you will find a photo documentary on a homeless community in Covington, Kentucky and photo essays on carnival workers in Ohio , the clown alley of the Clyde Beatty Cole Brothers circus and a homeless couple living on the banks of the Hudson River in Jersey City. Although this collection is a bit of a relic from the past, it is still quite interesting and worth checking out.
